Having previously worked with NASA to launch a public UHD channel bringing breathtaking footage from space to the US, Harmonic wanted to deliver that same awe-inspiring footage in UHD HDR. Featuring stunning images from space provided by NASA, it is the world’s first 24/7 UHD HDR video streaming service. By delivering it as a streaming service on the Roku® platform, it would enable millions of viewers around the globe to enjoy footage of space, Earth, and other planets with amazing clarity. All with the aim of inspiring the public, including the astronauts of the future. The UHD HDR OTT Service was a collaborative effort involving a number of technology partners throughout the ecosystem. Harmonic and NASA worked together to deliver the original UHD service. For the UHD HDR service, Harmonic brought in other partners, including Accedo, to ensure a seamless experience for consumers on the Roku.

The channel was built for Roku SceneGraph using Accedo OneTM, a cloud-based platform for building customized brand experiences. It enables real-time testing to ensure the user experience is right for the intended audience. Full UX management capabilities mean that designs and navigations can be created or updated at any time. Accedo OneTM also helped manage the video metadata, including video sources and series, episode, and description metadata. This is critical to enabling consumers to easily discover the content they want to watch.
